2000 Community Action Centre
Management Committee statement on Covid-19
In light of government advice that everyone in the UK should avoid non-essential travel and social contact with others in order to curb the spread of Covid-19, the management committee have taken the difficult decision to minimise the activities of the 2000 Community Action Centre.
This statement replaces the statement made by the management committee on 20/03/2020.
All routine events and classes are currently suspended including yoga and community meetings. All private hire events booked between 16/03/20 and 08/05/2020 have been cancelled and a full refund given if requested.
No new bookings are being taken prior to 08/05/2020.
The café is currently closed to the general public however we understand that we have an important role in the community supporting vulnerable and low-income families in the local area. The café is currently staffed on Thursday and Friday to provide emergency assistance only in conjunction with the food bank / social supermarket.
Customers must access the centre through the main entrance and speak with the centre manager to indicate which service they wish to access. All customers are directed to wash their hands or use hand santiser on entering the café and to sit at least 2m apart from others. Surfaces are regularly cleaned with disinfectant in line with cleaning regime below.
The knock-on effects of the Covid-19 pandemic mean that housing and benefits advice will still be required by the local community.
During this time of restricted travel our advice service, provided by local charity Bench Outreach, can still be accessed by telephone and advice will be delivered through a variety of means such as telephone, letter, video call and WhatsApp.
Food bank / social supermarket / Fareshare activity
There will be ongoing activity at the 2000 Community Action Centre for food provision for vulnerable and low-income families in the area. We have an account with Fareshare and may shortly become a distribution centre.
The social supermarket will continue in a modified format. They have separate Covid-19 protocols which will be available shortly.
The cleaning of the community centre will remain of upmost importance during this time. Cleaning will take place according to Public Health England guidance on Cleaning and Disinfection Guidance in non-healthcare settings (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/873778/COVID19_Guidance_Cleaning.pdf).
Other hygiene precautions currently include:
· PHE poster on display in the centre
· Regular handwashing and use of hand santiser by all staff and customers in line with current guidance
· Maintaining 2m distance between staff and customers where possible
· Use of disinfectant wipes on all tables and surfaces
· Use of disinfectant wipes for computer keyboards (if used) as well as door handles, light switches, benches and other
The Covid-19 situation is rapidly evolving and government guidance changes on a daily basis. The position of the 2000 Community Action Centre will be reviewed regularly in light of this and the most up to date statement available via our website.
